Hi Dave, love this, it’s so clever and must take some organisation to make it work. Are you familiar with the work of Brian Bilston? His poems are sometimes presented in a similar way. D
Thankyou!!! This is so funny! I came across Brian Bilston's "Needles" poem just before Christmas. I thought it was hilarious!!! I wanted to show Meg, but I couldn't remember the Poet's name, or the name of the poem - let alone where I saw it.
And when I searched "Brian Bilston" that was the first thing that came up!
I thought you’d like his stuff, we’ve seen him giving poetry readings a couple of times, a mix of the humorous and the poignant with a little bit of politics thrown in, he’s very entertaining. The poem that got the biggest laugh, I think was this one entitled ‘Frisbee’
That is funny - but also weird, because I posted a poem with a Frisbee at the beach reference earlier in the Summer just ended: https://davidkirkby.substack.com/p/catch
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wow. This is so cool, but that part at the end?!? I think it's backwards, but being quite ass-backwards myself, I can't tell what it says.
The bit you can't decipher - it's just a normal sentence reading left to right. All I did was change the height of each letter and space them out, to simulate a wave pattern. It reads: "over the wind rippled surface"
Hey, dear Naz. Thankyou! I have a commitment to myself to avoid repeating the same thing constantly. I do a lot of serious. Sometimes, it's just fun to have fun....
Flight of the navigator waving good bye. Got a tail wind and more planes to fly over seek the sun rises. Catch a few rays of brilliance.

Hey Dave!
Yeah. Organisation? For sure, mate. Unbelievable....
Man - it was so fucking hard persuading the seagull to fly in that pattern. You don't wanna know how many chips I had to give it....
:)
Ummm - no - I haven't come across Brian Bilston. I'll go take a look!
I do some concrete poetry, just for fun. "Apple" is one I particularly enjoyed - though it was written years ago. https://davidkirkby.substack.com/p/apple
Much more recently my "Summer Solstice" poem has a word picture of a surfer getting a barrel, about half way through the poem:

Aha! Just replying to my own reply.

Frisbee whizzing
through the air
above our heads
over the sand
into the water
onto the waves
out to sea.
You cried a lot that day.
Frisbee was a lovely dog.
😂
D
Ha! omg...

But no - my frisbee was not a dog! :)
Because we live in eastern Australia we only ever see sunrise over water; that evening in southern France we got the joy of sunset over the ocean.
I would also attest to often being amazed that wildlife of all sorts do tend to almost slowdown and pose for Dave’s camera. So cool.
Poem never met form better! 🤍
How do I decrypt the end?
Thankyou!
Oh - just wash the letters down so they are all on the same line…
Best Wishes - Dave:)
Aaaaah, I see it now 😋
I adore the creative composition here!! So good!
Thankyou, Alex :)

Ah! Glad you like it :)

So fun!

Lovely, Dave! I also enjoy realizing the power of form whenever possible, and here you have done it neatly.
Thankyou, friend Mahdi!
Best Wishes - Dave :)
Thankyou, friend Jeremy!
My work tends towards serious, most of the time, but sometimes it's fun just to play....
