Happy Birthday
For Meg
For your
birthday
I give this
thunderstorm -
sunsetted, sensuous -
covering our river to make
the day gift wrapped with rain
and tied with a bow of white, bright
lightning, vast and elemental as my love.
In fact
I found it
weeks ago,
coming home
from town - faster
than I should - wanting
to be with you - knowing
you were waiting - needing
to hold you before the sun went down.
And
I kept it
until today,
even though
every single day
becomes our birthday
as we are born together
into a new morning, warm,
light lavished and luminous,
because there is no gift you need
and nothing you desire but, it’s still a day
to love you and, I know how much we both adore a storm.

What a beautiful poem, Dave! And what a fitting and wonderful gift for Meg on her birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MEG. I love everything about this poem - the formatting, the pictures that go with it - and, of course, the words of love that are just leaping from the page. Have a great celebration, my friends!
Happy birthday to Meg, and in the spirit of the poem, happy birthday to both of you and to love reborn and shining brightly every day. ☀️
