Thankyou for restacking my Poetry, Geraldine! Dublin is a fascinating place to visit, to be sure…. I had not expected to like it, and instead fell in love.
Ah yes! We were kicking back at a cafe, after several pints of Guinness and ahead of a night of Whiskey with Meg's Cousins. So we were feeling pretty damn self at ease ourselves... :)
What a lovely take on conversations in Dublin, David. From an Irish woman living here, lovely to read this take from someone visiting Dublin.
The sights and sounds you beautifully bring to life, and they ring true. I'm there now too!
Lovely to hear Ireland had this visceral impact on you. It's got a vibrancy, spirit and an energy... maybe that's why I came back home from Sydney (albeit slightly reluctantly when my travel visa expired) all those years ago.
Thankyou! It was a real conversation, washing over me from a cafe table like a cool waterfall on a hot day. I was newly arrived, and at that point of realising that I was already hopelessly in love with a place I had never even expected to like. To hear from a local that this rings true .... well, that makes my day, it does. :)
I published this on Substack just 4 weeks after starting there, back when I had a Subscriber list of Meg and a few family members and tolerant friends - so not many people have read it. It's lovely to see a "Like" for Dublin pop up unexpectedly....

Desperately seeking self-ease. I find it occasionally, then I seem to lose track of it again.
It’s there in my outbreath, Jed …. empty lungs gives me a few seconds - minutes of repose and self-ease.
I’d be better able to talk on this if I was a FreeDiver!👩🏻🦳
