Poetry..
Sometimes it happens when you least expect it.
I was at the beach pretending to write a sequel to “Summer Delicious” but really it was just an excuse for a swim. I mean - look at the photos…
The water was enveloping, cool, washing away worry like clearing an etch a sketch; (does anyone still have those??)
I wrote a few words in my journal out of a sense of duty but really - poetry was nowhere in sight. I just had that odd feeling of verbal clumsiness; the linguistic equivalent of being a crap amateur Carpenter. Nothing I nailed together looked right and it all fell apart as soon as I looked at it.
I gave up, grabbed my phone and cruised Substack instead. Straight away there was a Note from some stranger saying: “Hey everyone! Give me an update on your current status. What are you doing right now?”
Well okay. Why not? So I sat back in the sand, relaxed my brain and wrote this….
Poetry Update “Summer Delicious” was my poem – posted online, ice cream licked lapped up and ….. liked. I went back to the beach for a sequel. Instead, tumbled in the waters then sat in the sun - salt encrusted and satiated - watching all the sand scattered lives spread out around me, assorted. The poem - perhaps disguised as a seagull – proved elusive. I sensed it somewhere close - fluttering just out of reach of my pen – quieter than sight; more visible than the sound of the waves; tastier than the touch of the warm dry wind on my skin…. Then I picked up my phone, opened Substack, found your post and wrote this. You are now up to date.

I find it so odd that sometimes words and phrases pour out of us and other times… nothing. I thought it was just me.
So nice!
