Yes, thanks, Dave for the shout out. What a wonderful piece, beautifully crafted and thoughtful. And all these friends here to share our travels (and suffering and joy) through this world. Because of you, I have met many.
Thank you my friend. It is fascinating to me - and a true joy - that I came here to write and to publish, but in the process I found new friends and a community.
Thanks for the shout out, David. Congratulations on your substack birthday!! Thank you for being one of the first few who commented on my posts and drew me into this wonderful community! 🙏🙏
Thank you my friend! I accidentally had comments locked for this Post. So silly of me. I greatly enjoy your Poetry, Rajani, and it is a true pleasure to have met you here.
I feel embarrassed that it has taken me so long to get around to thanking you for your kind words and for the shoutout. I wondered where all those new subscribers were coming from.
Once I’ve left this comment I shall go back through this piece and check out everyone you’ve mentioned, I know quite a few but there are several I don’t and I like to think a recommendation from you is as good as it gets.
Your love of life leaps off every page you publish and even in these troubled times, the world is a better place because you are part of it.
Thanks for being on Substack, mate, it really wouldn’t be the same without you.
No need for thanks. I'm just delighted to have met you - virtually at least - and made a long distance friend. My year on Substack has been extremely interesting - and far more positive than I ever expected. Now I need to reflect on what I do next.... but whatever that is, I plan to stay in contact with some of the people here - yourself included.
David! You bounder. I was pleased to read that Splash Zone was so well received. Cracked me up. You honor me with inclusion in your year of memories here. I feel lucky to have encountered you and Meg and, as ever, I hope it is in the cards for us to break bread together in the future and for you to take me for a walk around your island neighborhood and perhaps tell me every little thing about it in person.
My year on Substack post was an attempt to mention and thank many of the lovely people who have made the experience so fascinating, but there is so much more I could have said.
This year on Substack has brought me many delights, and insights - all unexpected, and meeting you is one of the very best.
You are truly welcome here any time, and especially any time that we are here too. When we aren't here, maybe we can all be at the same somewhere else, some time? So many possibilities...
Welcome back! I'm delighted that you enjoyed it, and I look forward to reading more of your own work. I see you too have just passed your Substack birthday! I will read your Post next.
The sense of community is what has kept me here, and brought new enjoyment to my own writing.
I simply cannot believe that it is already one year since I read your first post and said to Mr G. Dave is a true poet!!!I feel honored to be part of the inspiration that got you sharing work and publishing on substack:) Your poetry and writing speaks to and of soul. It should be shared. As should Megs gorgeous work. A divine match I’m thinking . Much love. B 🌹
Yes... a year just flashed by. Slightly scary, but on the other hand, we do focus on finding meaning in each day. We will be spending more time in Newcastle soon, as well - for family reasons. If you lovely people are around there, we would love to catch up. (Kyoto would be a bit harder for us - but we can see it is so good for you!!)
We are here till September 30 then Kyoto till mid December:) yes it is all good. I hope our paths cross again soon. And yes Kyoto is good for us:) one day maybe we’ll walk the path of philosophy together:) With love B xx
Hi David, thank you so much for the shout out! Also, a huge congratulations on reaching your first Substack birthday. It’s an incredibly milestone, and I’m glad to be here for it. It feels like it was just yesterday that I had received your submission to the writing collective I was running. Time really flies 😮💨 anyway, once again congratulations!!! 🎉
Dave, reading this brightened my day. Celebrating you for taking a courageous step forward to start sharing your work publicly again after years of writing quietly behind the scenes. Substack is a better place because you're here. I'm so grateful for kindred connections made with each other from across the world. So happy to hear we're both going to be featured in the Upon Learning That anthology too!! Big love to you and Meg! ❤️
Thank you for such a wonderful encouragement. After dropping out of publishing I did, I think, lose confidence. Earning a living and raising children became such enormously involving aspects of my life that writing was very much secondary, and although I did keep writing, there was no time or energy for getting it out there, and I also lost touch with other Poets and writers.
That latter aspect is the saddest for me. When I ventured out into Substack I also started looking for some old friends. I was shocked to discover how many had died, without me even knowing....
So the connection with other Writers through Substack is extremely important to me, and when I realised it was a full year I wanted to celebrate those connections, which continue to broaden and deepen, and which also enrich and enliven my own writing.
Thank you again, Ash and - yes! We are both in "Upon Learning That" !!! If I could I would give Alex a big hug, but wherever she is (I'm unsure where she hangs out?) it will be on the other side of the planet from me so a virtual hug is all I can give.

David, I so enjoyed your post. I just subscribed to your substack again after mistakenly unsubscribing.
Best wishes to you and the wild adventures on the horizon!

Hi dear Hazel
You are welcome! And thank you...
But Oh yes.... time just zooms along. All we can do is zoom with it and honour every moment, and each other.
Very Best Wishes - Dave
Congrats, and many more!
Thank you Carole !

Dear Dave,
It is always all about love.
I’m glad you made that decision last year, and it’s been a pleasure through and through.
Love,
Mahdi
Thank you my friend! The joy is mutual.
Be well. Keep writing!
Best Wishes - Dave :)
